I can't get audio from my piano unless I put my microphone next to it. but then it picks up the sounds of me pressing the keys. I saw in SeeMusic's recording tutorial, he didn't have any audio selected but he still got audio. Am I doing anything wrong?

After recording MIDI from your keyboard (without any actual audio), you can play back your recording with sound using the app's built-in MIDI Synth.
The MIDI Synth is toggled on and off using this button:
